As the long holiday weekend kicks off, Chicago has already seen 11 victims of gun shots, with one being fatal.
While shootings at this same time last year were over twice as high, with eight deaths and 25 wounded, this is still nothing to be too excited about, as we should be able to live in a time of celebration and enjoyment sans senseless violence.
We seriously need to stop killing each other and put down the weapons. How can we really expect others to take us seriously in our please for justice and respect, when we don’t even respect each other enough to value our own lives? We cannot truly begin to demand what we deserve until we expect it from one another.
