At a time where black men are being mercilessly slayed and taken from their families left and right, with their murderers going unpunished, we should make a conscious effort to not only voice our disapproval of the system’s value of our lives, but highlight those within our community doing amazing things and reaffirming that #blacklivesdomatter.
NFL player (Houston Texans…real creative team name guys) Andre Johnson partnered with his foundation, The Andre Johnson Foundation to host his 8th annual event at Toys R Us. 11 kids within the Texas Child Protective Services were each given a bike, a gaming system and 80 seconds to grab as many toys as they could.
It’s worth noting that there were a mix of children of all races, proof that at the end of the day, we are all just human and need each other. While we mourn the loss of “innocent” (meaning their crimes were no way worthy of their punishments) black men taken too soon, let us also celebrate all the great ones that we know of or simply hear about.
