Like many of us, artist EJ Brown is just as tired of and over all the negative portrayals of young black men in the media, both in the news and just on television and in movies in general. EJ has decided to act on his feelings and take steps to do what he can to help start the process of turning the images around to something more positive.
He recently launched The Mugshot Series, a photo project that is part of a larger project, A Perception of Complexion, which aims to combat societal stigmas of black men.
The 25 year old’s art series juxtaposes images of black male college graduates with mugshot backgrounds, showing their crimes as “Intelligence” and “Business Management”.
The project has been met by mostly positive reviews. What are your thoughts?
