Harlem Barbershop Gives Haircuts and Health Screenings to Public

Over the weekend, Denny Moe’s Superstar Barbershop in Harlem, NY sent their customers on their way with more than just a great new cut.

Their bi-annual charity event, “Cutting for a Cure”, brings barbers from across the country, as well as a few international ones, to participate in a 48-hour hair cutting marathon along with healthcare professionals who provide education and free health screenings to locals.

Barbershop owner Denny Mitchell (AKA Denny Moe), quotes his own personal tragedy in the 2008 untimely lossĀ of his father to pancreatic cancer. The health care providers help attendees with issues like diabetes and high blood pressure by providing otherwise inaccessible information and treatment.

R&B singer Monifa, also a Harlem native, gave her support for the initiative as well, emphasizing its importance in a community plagued by health concerns.

As for the future, Denny Moe gladly speaks of his dream for Cutting for a Cure, stating that he hopes to grow the program even bigger to where at least five shops in each city participate in the cause each year.
