For most working individuals, a lunch break is a time to step away from your desk and the office, eat and re-energize for the second half of your day. For some, it’s a time to go shopping or even stay at your desk and shovel food in your mouth with one hand while continuing to type with the other.
For Kasonja Holley of Chicago, it’s a time to save the world.
Every Thursday, Holley can be found at her local sandwich shop, buying 20 boxed lunches which she goes on to hand out to the homeless in her community. She also purchases toiletries and personal care products and distributes them to those in need.
Currently working two jobs to be able to support herself and her philanthropic endeavor, Holley has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds that would enable her to feed even more of the less fortunate; so far she has raised over $9,000.
Holley hopes to continue to raise money to reach even more of the hungry in her community. Think about contributing a few dollars to her campaign, or even skipping lunch once a week to buy a meal for someone in need.
