He’s been dubbed “The Greek Freak” and a look at his age, body and stats thus far in his short yet solid professional basketball career shows how he got that name.
At just 19 years of age, Giannis Antetokounmpo (if you’re like me you stopped trying to pronounce that after his first name) stands 6’11 with a 7’3 wingspan, naturally making him a formidable and ridiculously large opponent. While he is a bit waif-like, coming in at a manorexic 218 lbs, what he lacks in girth, he more than makes up in skill and potential.
Drafted straight from Greece to the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, he has garnered respectable stats of 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game and those numbers are only expected to increase with time and experience.
With the size of a center and the ball-handling skills of a guard, this young man is poised to become a top player in the world’s best league. Seems to run in the family, he has 3 brothers, all of which either play for the NBA Developmental League or in college.
It’s also worth noting he’s actually Nigerian, but his family fled the country and moved to Greece before his birth. Check out the young boy in action below.
