23 year old Mariah Idrissi was just another aspiring fashionista, posting her makeup and outfit looks of the day on Instagram and showing her followers her love for beauty and clothing.
That is, until H&M discovered her profile and decided that she needed to be their first every model wearing a hijab.
The London native of Moroccan and Pakistani descent, appears in the clothing juggernaut company’s new “Close the Loop” campaign, which aims to highlight the recycling of fibers for sustainable clothing that helps save the environment and puts a spotlight on many demographics that are often overlooked, including Muslims and plus-size models.
The beauty still isn’t completely sure why H&M chose her (has she seen her face?), but is loving every moment of it nonetheless and is using it as a platform to help educate others on her religious and cultural beliefs.
And she’s not just another model. At just 23, she also has her own salon, Salon Marrakesh, which even carries its own Halal (lawful within Muslim bylines) nail polish.
We see great things on the horizon for this beauty and hope this is just the beginning of the use of more diversity in all arenas.
