It’s the Year of the Lupita

lupitaOver the past eight months, Lupita Nyong’o has been #winning…and then some. Breakthrough role in a feature film? Check. Academy Award for your performance AND several nominations for Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards? Check. Becoming the first Kenyan AND first Mexican citizen to win that same Academy Award? Check. Becoming a style icon? Check. Becoming a voice for women in their daily fight to feel beautiful among impossible societal standards? Being named People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Person? Check, check and check.

Lupita is having an amazing year and believe me it is not just “a thing”.

A Yale School of Drama graduate, Lupita has worked in the industry, taking on smaller roles and honing her skills for many years. Thanks to her big screen debut in Steve McQueen’s critically acclaimed Twelve Years A Slave, a biographical film based on the life of Solomon Northup, Lupita has become one of Hollywood’s biggest it girls and is taking the world by storm.

Upcoming projects for this majestic beauty include a part in the next installment of the Star Wars movie series as well as a role in the cult favorite Game of Thrones.  If that’s not enough on her plate, she is also developing (and will star in) a film adaptation for fellow African, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, Americanah, which tells the story of a young Nigerian woman who emigrates to America for a college education.

We know Lupita will continue to wow us with her intellect, humility, smoothest skin this side of the Equator and acting chops. We can’t wait to see what’s next for her and the other women of color for whom she is paving the way.
