Kim Royster Becomes Highest Ranking Black Woman in NYPD History

On the heels of all the tragic and controversial stories surrounding law enforcement’s relations with people of color, Kimblery Royster, a 30-year veteran of the NYPD, has recently been promoted to Chief of the Personnel Division, making her the highest ranking black woman in the NYPD’s history (one of those, seriously what took them so long things, but I digress…).

In her newly appointed position, Royster will oversee the recruitment, training and diversification of NYC’s police force. She comes from a background of working in Internal Affairs, the Office of Management Analysis and Planning and as a precinct executive.

We are hoping this can be a step in the right direction with improving the relationships they have within our communities, yet much bigger strides still need to be made.
