LeBron James’ Foundation Pledges $41,000,000 to help 1,100 Kids Attend College

Say what you want about King James and his efforts on the court (for the record…I am a fan), but this elite athlete is more than showing us and is peers how it’s done off the court, recently public pledging nearly a quarter of his net worth, $41,000,000 to ensure that disadvantaged youth who may not be able to otherwise, have the opportunity to attend and graduate from college.

James and his foundation, Lebron James Family Foundation, have partnered with the University of Akron to create the “I Promise Program”, which will require students to graduate from high school within Akron’s public school system and passed all necessary standardized tests that qualify them for┬ácollege admission.

The scholarships, which currently will cover tuition and fees for four years, equates to about $38,000 for each of the 1,1100 students in the program.

James’ hope is to provide a way for disadvantages students who may have had no other option of attending college, broadening their horizons and exposing them to the many possible opportunities that education makes available.

A leader on and off the court, we hope other plays will follow his lead and give back to the next generation that looks up to them and needs their guidance and help.
