This morning Wendy Williams celebrated her 50th birthday and dropped some big news on her viewers.
She announced that Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, has found a new leading lady and that her company, Wendy Williams Productions, has signed on to co-executive produce the project alongside Debra Martin Chase.
As for the role of Aaliyah? 22 year old Alexandra Shipp will be filling in for Zendaya Coleman, who was forced to drop out of the movie due to “scheduling conflicts.”
Hmmm…Zendaya was basically publicly persecuted for not being “black enough” for the role (she’s half black half white) and now lifetime has cast another biracial actress to fill the position. We wonder if she will face the same level of criticism as Zendaya.
And is there that much of a deficit of just African American actresses for the position? Based on the previous short list of potential actresses, there were definitely some that looked way more like the late songstress…
