An NYC middle school band of three pre-teen boys has gone from playing on the streets of Times Square to landing a potentially lucrative deal with Sony Music.
The band, Unlocking the Truth, is made up of drummer Jarad Dawkins, guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse and bassist Alec Atkins all between the ages of 12 and 13. The band’s manager, Alan Sacks, told the New York Post that Sony reached out to them after noticing a viral video of one of the group’s Times Square performances.
While the band has only received a $60,000 advance thus far, substantial album sales could help them realize up to $1.7 million over the next few years. This could be more likely than not, as the group’s work ethic and big dreams are made evident through their Facebook page, where they state that they hope to “become one of the world’s best heavy metal bands.”
Unlocking the Truth recently played at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and is set to perform at the Vans Warped Tour.
