31 year old Misty Copeland is a ballet prodigy, holding the title of the first female African American female soloist for the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). All of this, despite her late start at 13 years of age in this highly technical and demanding field and rejection letters from many schools, who claimed she didn’t have what it takes to become a great ballerina.
Back in January of this year, Copeland signed with Under Armour to become a spokeswoman and brand ambassador. The partnership has finally released a 60 second advertisement, which can be seen below.
It opens with a young girl reading aloud a rejection letter to a hopeful ballerina on all the reasons the school is not willing to accept her. You then see Copeland perform in all her glory, defying the words of the letter and showing the beauty and strength involved in her craft. If there was any doubt before that ballet is a sport, we’re pretty sure this ad just proved the naysayers wrong.
