This past Tuesday, former Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer became the new owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, ousting the racially controversial Donald Sterling, who had owned the franchise for the past 33 years.
The record $2 billion deal closed after Sterling’s wife, Shelly, was finally able to get a California court to confirm her authority on decision making for the Sterling Family Trust.
This will hopefully settle the tension that had been brewing with the team since Sterling’s racially charged comments to his mistress, V. Stiviano, went viral. Shelly was able to be granted authority once her 80-year old estranged husband began to show hints of Alzheimer’s disease.
Ballmer and Clippers players will be in attendance of a new fan festival next Monday, the 18th at Staples Center.
