While projections had Universal’s Straight Outta Compton, biopic bringing in a respectable $25 million for its opening weekend, the 2.5 hour flick that tells the story of the controversial and legendary music group, N.W.A., made that in Friday alone, grossing $24.3 million on its opening day.
It went on to gross over $56 million over the weekend…and that’s just in domestic box office sales. That’s over $20 million more than the second highest grossing film, Walk the Line. With a budget of $29 million, it has already made almost 100% profit in just the first three days.
If you haven’t yet seen the film, make sure you head to a theatre near you to check it out. Support “black” movies and show these production studios that we can bring in just as much money, if not more than our “mainstream” (white) counterparts.
