#WCW: These Two Poets Give Voice To The Everyday Struggle of Black Women

While the nation unites (somewhat) to bring strength to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, it has been made pretty obvious that the focus has been on black men, while the black women who have lost their lives in similar manners have received less support, publicity and concern from their own community.

A black woman myself, I have as of lately felt the negligence of our own men to love, cherish and appreciate us as they opt instead for an “exotical”.

While I may never speak up publicly about it, for fear of simply being labeled an angry black woman (which technically I get called everyday if I don’t walk down the street with a smile plastered to my face while skipping down the side walk), brave and beautiful college students Crystal Valentine and Aaliyah Jihad penned the perfect poem to express what many of us feel.
